Explore Local History:

Battle-of-Franklin

Franklin is steeped in history. The city was named after Benjamin Franklin, and it was a major center during the Civil War. There are plenty of opportunities to dive into Franklin and Central Tennessee’s historic past. Tour historic buildings like the Lotz House Museum, Carter House or Carton Plantation for an interesting journey back in time.

Take in Some Live Music:

Nashville might be known as the Music City, but Franklin is home to several world-class venues. There’s bound to be live music each night of the week on Main Street, and you never known who might stop by. Downtown check out The Factory, The Franklin Theater, Kimbro’s, Puckett’s or Gray’s on Main for nightly entertainment. Plus, the Pilgrimage Festival, which opens in the fall, is one of the region’s largest weekend music fests.

Make a Trip to the Rodeo:

Founded in 1949, the Franklin Rodeo is the longest-running annual event in Williamson County. It’s the perfect activity for families, featuring parades, rodeo events and exhibitions. If you’ve got an aspiring cowboy or cowgirl in your family, you can’t miss this favorite summer event.

Tour Historic Downtown Franklin:

Downtown Franklin is home to a variety of awesome restaurants and artisan shops. Yet, there’s also plenty of rich history in those well-preserved buildings. The perfect way to experience the Main Street history is through a walking tour. Franklin by Foot offers unique tours that are perfect for the whole family and offer an interesting look back in time.

Go Antiquing Around Town:

Hiding in Franklin’s numerous antique shops are hidden gems. Spend an afternoon antiquing with the family. A few stops to include on your adventure include the Franklin Antique Mall and Scarlett Scales Antiques.

Buy Fresh Veggies at the Farmer’s Market:

The Farmer’s Market – held in Downtown Franklin – offers you and the family an opportunity to taste locally sourced produce, dairy, baked goods and meats. Plus, each year, the Farmer’s Market hosts a Strawberry Festival, the perfect event for the little ones.   

Attend a Downtown Festival:

Throughout the year, Main Street plays host to numerous family-friendly festivals. From the fall’s Pumpkinfest, to July’s Franklin on the Fourth, there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained during a downtown festival. A few other options include Main Street Festival in the spring, as well as Wine Down Main Street in the fall.

Catch a Movie in the Park:

There might not be a drive-in theater close by, but during the summer months, an outdoor movie in Pinkerton Park is the next best thing. Each summer, a series of movies are featured that are perfect for kids. This summer, Hook, Inside Out, and the classic Back to the Future are showing.

Franklin is home to a number of professional theater companies – including The Boiler Room Theatre, The Act Too Players, and the Pull-Tight Players. Each features a unique line-up of stage productions, offering a unique opportunity for family entertainment.
